How do I pay my Self Assessment tax bill online?

Typically, this is the fastest way to pay for your Self Assessment tax bill. In fact, payments are typically instant. At most, it could take no more than 2 hours to fully process. Also note that you need to have your bank details set up in order for this to work.
You may use various payment services. However, not for income tax, state pension, time to pay or previous tax years. You could contact hmrc for digital services, or to determine assessment payment, through debit or credit card. This has been true before april 2022.
Self Assessment tax bill deadlines
You have certain deadlines to pay your Self Assessment tax bill. In fact, you have until 31 January to pay for taxes you owe on the prior tax year.

Can I pay my Self Assessment tax bill weekly or monthly?
You can make monthly or weekly payments. To do this, you will need to make a Budget Payment Plan. Then, when the deadline comes, you will not have to pay as much tax.
You can pay all of your next Self Assessment tax bill with this method. If you do not do so, you will have to pay what you have left, when the deadline comes. Additionally, you may be able to get a refund if you pay too much.
Your Budget Payment Plan lets you chose how you want to go about paying your Self Assessment tax bill. This includes the amounts and frequencies of payments. Furthermore, you can put your payments on hold, for a maximum of 6 months. However, your payments until now need to be paid.
How can use a Budget Payment Plan?
To prepare your Budget Payment Plan, go to your HMRC online account. You will need your Government Gateway login information. You will then be able to use Direct Debit to pay for your Self Assessment tax bill.
Once you are logged in on your HMRC account, you should have a Budget Payment Plan option. Then, select it. This should give you instructions on how to set it up. Once that is done, you should be good to go with your weekly or monthly payments.

Can I pay my Self Assessment tax bill through Direct Debit?
You can pay for your tax bill using Direct Debit. In fact, you can do this using your HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) online account. You can access it on the Gov.UK website, using your Government Gateway username and password. Your payments will be debited by 31 January.
You may want to make a payment on account, or a payment for the current tax year. Then, you can do this through Direct Debit. However, note that you will need to set up every payments that you want to make through Direct Debit.
To pay through Direct Debit, you need to use your 11-character payment reference. More specifically, this is your Unique Taxpayer Reference number, with ‘K’ added to it. You can find it on your paying-in slip. Otherwise, you can find it on your online account on the Gov.UK website.
Can I pay my Self Assessment tax bill online or through telephone?
You can pay for your Self Assessment tax bill online or by telephone. This is true using Bacs, CHAPS or Faster Payments. Look at your bill to know what accounts to make your payments to. Otherwise, send payments to HMRC Cumbernauld. The sort code is 08 32 10, and account number is 12001039.
Otherwise, you may use the HMRC Shipley account. The bank identifier code (BIC) BARCGB22. The account number (IBAN) is GB03BARC20114783977692.
Typically, Faster Payments take no more than a day or two to reach HMRC. In fact, this includes bank holidays and weekends. For CHAPS typically takes a working day to reach HMRC. For Bacs, the transaction typically takes no longer than 3 working days.

Can I pay for my Self Assessment tax bill with my corporate credit or debit card online?
You can pay for it online on the Gov.UK website. Typically, to pay with your corporate card, there will be fees that will arise. These fees are not always someone you can be paid back for. However, this is normally just for credit cards. Corporate debit card usually don’t have fees.
Then, you need to use your 11-character payment reference. This is your Unique Taxpayer Reference number, with ‘K’ added to it. More specifically, you can find it on your paying-in slip. Otherwise, you can find it on your online account on the Gov.UK website.
Note that your payments will be formally accepted by HMRC on the date on which you initiated the payment. In fact, it is not on the day on which the money reaches the HMRC account.
Can I pay through my building society or bank?
You can pay for your Self Assessment tax bill at your bank or building society. However, this is only true if you still receive post from the HMRC. Additionally, you must have received a paying-in slip from them. Moreover, any cheques need to be labelled for ‘HM Revenue and Customs only‘.

This is all you need to indicate as the address. Typically, the HMRC will receive your cheque within 3 working days. On top of you 11-character payment reference and ‘HM Revenue and Customs only’, you need to include the payslip that HMRC sent you by post. Do not fold or tie them.
